Saving Energy With The Tekmar Digital Energy Control System

A heating system is similar to the human body, with pumps, valves, piping and outer limbs (zones). Imagine what it would be as if each part of our body was controlled by a different brain, and none of the brains communicated with one another. The Tekmar Controls Company inspired by this thought has developed a control system to integrate the components with one central brain for your heating system.

The Brain, or house control unit coordinates the zones or different systems (baseboards, domestic hot water heater, spa heater, radiant floor, or hydro-air system). This control measures indoor and outdoor temperatures to insure a comfortable and energy efficient indoor environment. By measuring the outdoor temperature the control can adjust the heating systems requirements and make adjustments before outdoor temperature swings can affect the indoor comfort levels. This type of control will reduce or eliminated the need to change the thermostat settings. The ultimate value is energy savings. Another valuable feature of the control is the "Night Set Back". The control has a night- time set back built in to automatically turn down the temperature in the prescribed zones to a pre-determined night time setting.

During a three year study the independent and non-profit Environment and Energy Resource Center in Saint Paul Minnesota results showed an average reduction in fuel costs of 7%. The average energy payback, including the cost of the installation was in as little as 18 months.

It also stands to reason; if the heating system is working more efficiently the control may actually increase the life of the heating system and related systems. Should you like more information about this revolutionary control contact Bill Kochiss in our office.
